Council Chiefs Poise To Frustrate Wada’s Re-election Bid

Governor Idris Wada of Kogi state’s bid for a second term in office may be threatened by the plans of 21 local government chairmen to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for APC

The council bosses and Wada were in a face-off last year when they alleged that the governor sponsored a court ruling that ordered the dissolution of the positions of 21
council chairmen.

According to The Sun, the move was allegedly said to have been sponsored to install people as council chiefs that would be loyal to the governor, an allegation that Wada had repeatedly dismissed as mere rumour. However, he has refused to reinstate the sacked council bosses after they won their case for reinstatement at an appeal court in Abuja.

It was learnt that the governor had allegedly told the council members that he had no confidence in them pointing out they might not work for his re-election bid. He was quoted to have said that he will obey the ruling when he wins the November 21 election, a condition that did not go down well with the council chiefs.

A leader of the council bosses who pleaded for anonymity stated they might defect with all the councillors in the 21 local government areas to the All Progressives Congress.

The leader added that the administration of Wada had failed the people of the state with executive impunity saying that the APC is the solution to the myriad problems confronting the state.

He said: “The corruption in the state is second to none, why is Gov Wada seeking re-election? He has no tangible achievements in the state to his credit. He appointed his messengers as caretaker chairmen with the sole aim of cornering the accounts of the LGAs, the Councils system in Kogi state is a fraud where all sorts of corruption are taking place, courtesy of Gov Wada.”

Meanwhile, the PDP had said it would resist any attempt by the APC to derail the peaceful conduct of the November 21 and December 5 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states respectively.

The party also accused the APC of attempting to use the outcome of the 2015 general elections as a premise to claim victory in the allegedly manipulated Borno central senatorial by-election.
