President Buhari holds crucial meeting Sen.President Saraki

President Muhammadu Buhari met briefly with Dr Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting was held just after the Independence Day ceremony
No sign of war between Saraki and Buhari during a parade this morning

According to Daily Post, President Buhari had a close-door meeting with Saraki and the two were joined by Prof Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Justice Mahmud Mohammed, the chief justice of Nigeria.
The meeting reportedly held at the president’s office after having light refreshments at the venue of the Independence Day ceremony.

There are no details as regards the outcome of the meeting. Saraki spoke to newsmen after the meeting, but did not disclose many details.

“I am hopeful and confident that the future is very bright. In the next few years, things will be even better.

“It will not be business as usual. We will ensure that the National Assembly will be people-oriented and will make laws that will make impact on Nigerians.”

The chief justice also spoke to members of the press saying: “We will make it by the grace of God. We are on the right path.”

It is recalled that there have been media reports suggesting a rift between Buhari and the leadership of the Nigerian Parliament.

Media reports speculate tspeculate that the president has for sometime frustrated all efforts by Saraki to see him following the controversial manner in which the latter emerged as the Senate president.
The occasion of Nigeria’s 55th Independence anniversary, however, finally provided an opportunity for them to meet.

Meanwhile, the 55th Independence Day celebration, which was observed at the Presidential Villa, had many dignitaries in attendance.

The one-and-half-hour event which took place at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, featured the ceremonial presidential change of guards parade mounted by officers and men of the 177 Battalion and 7 Battalion of the Presidential Guards Brigade, Abuja.

Other features of the colourful event, aside the inspection of the guards, include posting of sentries, colour/flags patrol; 21-gun salute, and echelon reporting of parade, among
