The sanction of women Circumcision (FGM) in Africa

Circumcision is generally refers to as removal of the fore skin,the tissue covering the head(gland) of the penis, this is normal in male  but what is abnormal is the circumcision in women that is  general refers to as Female Genital mutilation (FGM). FGM was refer to as spiritual removal of some or all the external female genitalia typically carried out by a traditional circumciser  using a blade with or without anaesthesia. It's conducted from days after birth to puberty and beyond, thanks to our government that outlawed the practice of this damaging act in our tradition in Nigeria and about other twenty-seven countries as well as in Yemen and Iraqi.

 

Women suffer from FGM as young children from the operation at the time of their marriage, as adults and later during their child delivery. Female genital mutilation has detrimental

effects on the physical and psychological health of the infants,girl-children and women operated. The degree of complications depend on various factors including the nature of the physical environment of the operation,  the skill of the operators and the physical response of the operated individuals at the time of operation. The Consequences which begin immediately at the time of the operation can be grouped into long and short-term.The latter manifests itself within a very short period extending from a few hours of the operation to some ten days.Long-term complications are life-long, irreversible and require medical attentions to mitigate their effects.One study for example,found out that 83% of women whose genitals have been mutilated required medical attention at some time in their lives for problem related to procedure key went under immediate complications and consequences as follows

1. Shock from bleeding ,pain and stress resulting from cutting very sensitive and delicate area of the genital without the use of anaesthetic.  Bleeding or hemorrhage:The cutting of the blood vessels in the vulva (clitoria artery ) during the operation leads to bleeding,serious bleeding can also cause shocks. 

2. Infection caused by use of unsterilized instruments in unhygienic environment may lead to other complications and even death.

3.Extremely painful menstruation due to the build up of urine and blood in the uterus leading toinflammation of bladder and internal sexual organ, formation of fistula-the rupture of the vagina and or uterus. 

4. Severe painful intercourse which consist of physical discomfort and psychological traumatization, difficult child birth which in case on long and obstructed labour may lead to foeta  death and brain damage of infant. This act of  removal of sexually sensitive organ of women,  resulting in the loss of woman's natural sensitivity, this has broken many marriage prematurely because it can affect martial relationship, child birth and feelings during sexual intercourse. The nerve endings of the clitoris is Sensitive and serves the purpose of pleasure as such make sexual intercourse painful and difficulty experienced during birth in particular with infibulated woman. The vagina canal loses its elasticity due to excision and vaginal opening is closed incase of infibution. FGM has no significant advantage, is hazardous to women as such it's practice need to be sanctioned,many women are victim among was my friend , she never in one day enjoy sexual intercourse due to ignorance of her parents, let campaign for the complete sanction of female genital mutilation  in Africa.
